Introducing Challenges: Your Track Day, Gamified

Jason@ThrottlePass Jason@ThrottlePass

Track days just got a whole lot more fun. With our latest ThrottlePass update, you can now create your own Challenges — customizable mini-competitions designed for anything from friendly battles with buddies to full-blown time-attack style shootouts.

Whether you're at an open lapping day, organizing a club event, or just want to compare pace with friends across the season, Challenges give you a simple, flexible way to compete.

What Are ThrottlePass Challenges?

Challenges are lightweight, track-specific time trials that you can spin up in seconds. They’re built for both casual fun and serious benchmarking:

  • Think: your own mini time attack
  • Or: a friendly “fastest lap by 3PM” showdown with your group
  • Or even: a month-long leaderboard for your local track community

Every Challenge is tied to a track configuration, making comparisons clean and fair.

You Control the Format

When creating a Challenge, you can set:

📅 Start & End Date

Run a challenge for:

  • a single track day
  • a weekend
  • or even an entire season

ThrottlePass handles the timing window automatically so only valid laps count.

⏱️ Raw Time or TPZ Score

Choose how performance is measured:

  • Raw Lap Time: Pure speed. Lowest time wins.
  • TPZ Score: Our normalized performance metric that compares lap time against expected pace based on your power, weight, and modifications. It adjusts for vehicle performance so your Miata can finally compete fairly against your friend’s GT3.

This dual mode makes Challenges perfect for mixed-car groups where fairness matters.

Where to Find Challenges

Challenges now live right inside the Tracks tab.
Choose a track → see active Challenges → join instantly.

Or better yet, hit Create Challenge, set a name and date range, and start one yourself.

About Track Conditions & Driver Rating

We know that Challenges don’t always line up with perfect track conditions. Weather swings, dew, cold mornings, mid-day rain, and dusty surfaces can all affect lap times.

To keep things fair and protect your long-term profile:

🌤️ Only DRY Laps Count Toward Driver Rating

When you submit laps during a Challenge:

  • Dry laps count toward your Driver Rating
  • Wet, damp, cold, or otherwise suboptimal conditions are ignored for rating purposes

This means you can fully participate in Challenges — even if the day is far from ideal — without worrying about hurting your rating or skewing your performance history.

ThrottlePass keeps your Driver Rating focused strictly on representative conditions.

A Quick Reminder

ThrottlePass is about fun and improvement — but safety always comes first.
When chasing times, always follow your track’s local rules and passing regulations, and never push beyond your comfort or skill level.
